Thinking about a career in BMS controls?

I knew nothing about the job, when I started. So don’t think you need to be a expert to consider a career change.
There are variety job roles within the building controls industry, such as service, commissioning, software & graphic design, & project management.
The majority of employers in this sector offer attractive salaries as well as generous packages which usually would include a car or car allowance, travelling expenses, laptop, phone as well as healthcare and other benefits.
Even if you have no previous experience many firms are willing to take on new recruits in a trainee capacity if they have a strong background in related fields such as panel building and fault finding & electrical installation.
Some examples of what you could expect to be doing in the following job roles

BMS Service Engineer

  • Visiting multiple client sites throughout the week.

  • Reacting to break breakdowns & fault finding

  • Planed Preventative Maintenance - Checking over plant and controls to ensure it is operating efficiently within the designed specifications

  • Working on a call out rota

  • Carry out minor modifications to existing plant and controls to better suit the better suit the building

  • Leasing with the site maintenance engineer or building manager.

  • Identify opportunities for energy saving projects.
BMS Commissioning Engineer

  • Commission new installations

  • Alter existing installations
BMS Application Engineer

  • Design Software & Graphics,

  • Construct Description of Operation from specification requirements
BMS Bureau Engineer

  • Responding to customer technical queries

  • Providing technical support for engineers out on site

  • Remote monitoring client sites for alarms and faults, remote rectification where possible.
Trainee BMS engineer

  • Shadowing other engineers assisting them and learn the trade. On the job training is often supplemented with external courses from system manufactures.
